2016 marks the centenary of Roald Dahl, the world’s number one storyteller, born in Cardiff. This centenary year also coincides with the Visit Wales Year of Adventure.

Roald Dahl himself was no stranger to adventure, as a child getting up to well-documented mischief in the local sweetshop in Llandaff, or as a young pilot during World War Two.

With three children of our own, Dahl’s stories have been much loved bed-time favourites, especially The Twits, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As a child myself, I simply couldn’t get enough of James and the Giant Peach, reading it over and over again until the pages were well-thumbed and dog-eared! The book may have seen better days but the memory of James’s tale of escape and adventure is as vivid and enjoyable today as it was all those years ago.

There are lots of events and celebrations planned throughout the year by the Roald Dahl Society and Visit Wales, to mark the occasion, and here at Clydey Cottages, we are introducing some of Dahl’s most loved characters into our ‘Story Time’ at the Clydey Complimentary Children’s Club.

Roald Dahl

Our ‘Roald Dahl Story-Time’ will transport our young guests away to the wonders and adventures of Matilda’s classroom and her antics against Miss Trunchbull; Mr Hoppy’s balcony in Esio Trot – with all those tortoises! and the magical potion making in George’s Marvellous Medicine to name a few adventures.

If you aren’t lucky enough to be with us to celebrate Roald Dahl, we are giving everyone a chance to win one of two box sets of his complete works via our Facebook page.

Simply go to our Facebook page, let us know who your favourite Dahl character is and you could be immersing yourself in that very adventure and more, if you are one of our two lucky winners.

Good Luck!
